WATER is a prime natural resource, a basic human need and a precious national asset. Water is also one of the most crucial elements in development planning. In view of the vital importance for human life, for maintaining ecological balance and for economic and developmental activities of all kinds and considering its increased scarcity, the planning and management of this important resource and its optimal, economical and equitable use has become a matter of utmost urgency. As groundwater scientist the onus is on us to make the people aware that we are crossing the limit of inexpensive ground water. Unless water is used as a potential economic resource, its sustainability would be at stake in the very near future.
There is an increasing trend towards construction of buildings for residential as well as non-residential purposes in urban areas and making the open areas paved. This trend has decreased drastically infiltration of rainwater into subsoil and recharging of groundwater has diminished due to over development, which in turn has depleted the aquifers. So our motto is to augment a recharge system wherever there is abstraction of groundwater so that the equilibrium is maintained. Artificial Recharging of Harvested Rainwater enhances sustainable yield in the area and utilizes the rainfall run-off which otherwise goes to storm water drains. Rainwater Harvesting can be done by storage of rainwater on surface for future use and recharging of ground water. |

| | | With these objectives in view, Messrs’ ATW Millenium Concept, a firm that can address all those problems based on scientific evaluation and optimum engineering considerations, has been formed. The organization’s President, Mr. Anup K Sarkar, has got vast experience in ground water exploration and management especially construction of deep tubewells up to a depth of 350 meters below ground level (BGL) with their own Direct Circulation Rotatory Drilling Rigs, recharge wells etc. He has got the credit for construction of more than thousand of tubewells by his present organization, Allied Tubewells Pvt. Ltd in which he was the Executive Director and Associated Tubewells India Pvt. Ltd. He has also got the distinction of construction of “Roof Top Rainwater Harvesting-Storage-cum-Artificial Recharge” at the office building of South Dum Dum Municipality both for recharging and storage purpose, the first of its kind amongst the Municipalities of West Bengal and was actively associated with the construction of Recharge Well at Raj Bhawan, Kolkata as well as in South City, Kolkata. Besides that, as the CEO of Water Harvesting Solutions he has completed quite a good number of Rain Water Harvesting Structures at important locations in and around Kolkata.
